Colin Sykes is a qualified journalist and has lived in Buxton for 20 years. After training in Sheffield he worked for seven years in weekly and daily newspapers before moving into full time broadcasting with the BBC 30 years ago.
He worked in local radio for 15 years as a reporter and producer before becoming News Editor and Deputy Manager at BBC Radio Manchester. His work there involved management of around 40 full time staff plus many volunteers. He completed the BBC’s management training programme which covered many areas ranging from dealing with people to running a £1 million plus budget. He then became the North West Bi-Media Editor, a role covering regional TV and Radio.
Outside work, Colin is a keen supporter of the arts. He produced an annual charity gala at Buxton Opera House for 12 years which raised more than £120,000 for Cancer Research. He regularly performs in a four part harmony group and because of his TV work; he has compered and chaired numerous concerts, conferences, award ceremonies etc throughout the North West.
