Tilston and Lowe
17 Mar 2017
First paired together whilst on tour in the USA a few years ago, award-winning singer-songwriters Steve Tilston and Jez Lowe realised they could be onto something special. Some time passed before the two would reunite, but the spark was lit and plans were afoot! In 2015 Tilston and Lowe embarked on their debut UK tour before releasing the album The Janus Game in November.
Tilston has been described as ‘a complete guitarist’ and ‘a singer songwriter of rare talent’ He’s toured with John Renbourn’s Ship of Fools, traditional singer Maggie Boyle, Maartin Allcock and Pete Zorn as WAZ!. He’s also the writer of classics such as Slip Jigs and Reels, The Naked Highwayman and Here’s to Tom Paine and his songs have been covered by the who’s who of folk. He’s won a BBC Folk Award for Best Original Song, appeared on Later… with Jools Holland and BBC4’s Songwriters Circle and is the inspiration for the Hollywood movie Danny Collins starring Al Pacino! He’s also published a novel.
Lowe’s double nomination in the 2015 BBC Folk Awards for Best Singer and Best New Song was a timely reminder of Jez’s standing in the UK folk and acoustic music scene. He’s a major player in the award-winning BBC series The Radio Ballads. He also tours with his band the Bad Pennies with James Keelaghan, Men At Words with Archie Fisher; Bob Fox, Billy Mitchell and Benny Graham as The Pitmen Poets and with Maggie Holland, Chris Parkinson and Roger Wilson as The Broonzies.
Music in the Green will be holding a stall at this event.
