Playing since 1982, Mart Rodger Manchester Jazz was inspired when its band leader, Rodger, visited New Orleans, the birth place of jazz. He was asked to sit in on a session at the Maison Bourbon and the audience response was exhilarating. Since then, Rodger has been playing with his band at venues across the region.

Names that have shared the stage with Rodger include Humphrey Lyttelton, Cy Laurie, Marion Montgomery, Yank Lawson (Bob Croby’s Bob Cats fame) and Middleton Pollock. The sextet is heavily influenced by the Great British revivalist jazz musicans of the 40s and 50s.

Each musician/instrument has an integral part to play. The object being to create an ensemble sound of beauty and co-ordination with no dominant instrument sounds and as such each player has their own way to contribute to the balanced ensemble.
