Friday lunchtime recitals by students from Manchester's internationally renowned Royal Northern College of Music.
Christina Maxfield violin
Manchester-based Christina began studying violin at the age of six. She is currently a student of Benedict Holland at the Royal Northern College of Music, previously having studied at the Junior RNCM for 6 years.
Having been a member of the Hallé Youth Orchestra for 4 years, she led the orchestra in 2020-2021 and the 2nd violin section the previous year. Through the Hallé Youth, has had opportunities to work with esteemed conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Jonathon Heyward, and Carlos Miguel Prieto, as well as playing side-by-side in concert with the Hallé. She was a member of the National Youth Orchestra for two years, joining in winter 2019 and holding positions in both the first and second violin sections. Christina was a member of Stockport Youth Orchestra for 8 years, leading the orchestra for three of those years.
Christina has won numerous regional competitions and has benefitted from many prestigious scholarships, such as the Graucob awards, the Leverhulme and Kinder scholarships, and the Ida Carrol Trust. She reached the finals of the RNCM’s concerto competition in January 2022. In summer 2019, Christina attained a DipABRSM with distinction, and later that year, she had the privilege of performing Mendelssohn’s violin concerto with Stockport Youth Orchestra.
Christina performs with pianist Matt Lam who has recently completed a Junior Fellowship in accompaniment at the RNCM.
