Set in 1980s Naples at the time the airwaves were alight with rumours that SSC Napoli were about to sign Diego Maradona. The film focusses on the life of teenager Fabietto and his boisterous, salacious, exaggerated family and their marital dramas. Suddenly, a shocking event changes everything for Fabietto, transforming his rambunctious world into a life of subdued introspection. Was it the Hand of God and his obsession with Maradona that saved him? Director Sorrentino’s own parents died when he was a teenager and perhaps this is his imaginary life re-lived. An energetic, lively and entertaining film.
