In Memoriam

Buxton Musical SocietySt John's Churchbutton--dates-and-timesDates & Times

On Remembrance Sunday, we present a programme of reflective music.

Sergei Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto has always been an audience pleaser since its first performance in 1901 – it currently sits at the top of the ClassicFM Hall of Fame. We welcome the promising young pianist Callum McLachlan to perform with the Orchestra of Buxton Musical Society.

Also, in the programme is Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, a cantata composed in the run-up to the Second World War. His experience of warfare, first as an ambulance driver and subsequently as a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, lends this plea for peace a particular poignancy.

The concert begins with Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture.
