Pianist Ignas Maknickas received 'The Queen's Commendation for Excellence' in 2021 as the highest-scoring graduate of the Royal Academy of Music. A protegee of Joanna MacGregor, Maknickas completed his studies at the Royal Academy of Music on full scholarship. He is a recipient of the Julien Prize, the ABRSM Scholarship Award and was awarded First Prize at both the XIX Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Youth and the XX Piano Competition 'Young Virtuoso'.

He has appeared with the Aarhus Symphony, the Lithuanian National Symphony, the London Mozart Players and the Royal Acadamy of Music Chamber Orchestra, and has represented his home country of Lithuania on national television and at state occasions, appearing with his siblings as the Maknickas Family Ensemble.

Having performed in London, Paris, Copenhagen, Vilnius and Kinross, he will be bringing a programme of Chopin, Debussy and Schubert to Buxton this summer.
