The Lavena Trio were formed in October 2015 during their time studying at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester. The group consists of Lily Caunt (flute), Chloe Roberts (harp) and Jessica Thornhill (viola).

Caunt is finishing her second year of a Master in Music (Performance) at the RNCM and before this gained a BA in Music from the University of Bristol. Caunt has enjoyed a number of performance experiences both within RNCM orchestras and ensembles and outside, including playing with the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra and flute ensemble Tula Flutes.

Roberts is currently in her final year of a Bachelor of Music at the RNCM where she studies with Eira Lynn Jones. Roberts has won many prizes at the Welsh Eisteddod Festivals, most notably winning First Prize at the Cerdd Dant Festival in 2014 and First Prize in Composition at the Urdd Eisteddfod. Whilst studying at the RNCM, Roberts was selected as principal harp for the Symphony Orchestra, performing Mahler’s Symphony No 2 with Jac van Steen, and last term performed at Wigmore Hall with the RNCM Chamber Orchestra.

Thornhill graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in 2015 before continuing her studies at a postgraduate level at the RNCM. During her time at the RWCMD Thirnhill took part in many chamber ensembles including winning the Bridgewood and Neitzert String Quartet prize with the Scott Quartet. As an orchestral musician, Jessica has recently played with BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Hallé and Opera North.

As a group, the Lavena Trio have performed in the RNCM’s spotlight series, were finalists in the Brodsky Ensemble Prize and enjoy coaching with the many chamber music specialists at the RNCM. They look forward to many more performances as a group.

The Lavena Trio will be available for a meet and greet over coffee following the performance.
