Björn Andrésen was 15 when 51 years ago he was cast as Tadzio in Luchino Visconti’s film Death in Venice where he becomes an object of fascination for an exhausted composer, Gustav Aschenbach (Dirk Bogarde). Andrésen is a pale presence throughout the film and attracts the gaze of not only Aschenbach but the cinema audience. This documentary, made with the grateful cooperation of Andrésen, tells of what a painful burden the part of Tadzio became. It is a role that is inescapable for him and the whole experience of making and promoting the film was psychologically damaging and exploitative. Kristina Lindström and Kristian Petri tell his life story in a film that is sensitive and affecting, raising painful questions.
This film is programmed by Buxton Film and features no trailers.
