The National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company is the G&S Festival's resident professional company. It returns to Buxton with three brand-new productions of all-time favourites, The Mikado, The Yeomen of the Guard, The Pirates of Penzance and the acclaimed, The Best of Gilbert & Sullivan Concert.
The Yeomen of the Guard is set in the Tower of London and is the most emotionally engaging of the G&S canon combining tragedy and despair with W S Gilbert's sharp wit and satire. Colonel Fairfax is doomed to execution on a false charge of sorcery. To avoid leaving his estate to his cousin and accuser, he secretly marries a strolling player Elsie Maynard. Jack Point also loves Elsie but agrees to the marriage knowing his rival will be dead within hours. But Fairfax escapes, and chaos ensues.
Generally considered to be Sullivan's finest score, this brand-new production of The Yeomen of the Guard is directed by Simon Butteriss who also stars as heartbroken Jack Point.
