Yoanna Prodanova cello
Mihai Ritivoiu piano
Schumann Adagio and Allegro
Chopin Polish song
An award-winning regular duo, these two exceptional young artists are supported by the Musicians Company and City Music Foundation respectively, in recognition of their outstanding talent and maturity.
Yoanna is Bulgarian and studied in Montreal, and Mihai hails from Romania where he won the Dinu Lipatti Piano Competition. They continued their studies at the Guildhall in London and are seasoned performers here and abroad.
They bring a thrillingly varied and virtuosic programme, paying homage to Beethoven and Schumann, and including Shostakovich’s early Sonata in addition to Chopin’s extraordinary Sonata, the last work published in his lifetime and one of so few he wrote for instruments other than the piano. It’s impossible to appreciate Chopin’s full breadth of expression and command of the grandest form without acquaintance with this relatively rarely performed and autumnal masterpiece.
