About The RNCM Songsters
Relax and enjoy our lunchtime Coffee Concert. With a complimentary coffee (or tea) and biscuits, our daytime recitals are the perfect musical pit stop.
All musicians appear by the kind permission of the Royal Northern College of Music.
Predominantly consisting of singers and pianists selected annually by audition, the RNCM Songsters take part in engagements and projects in art song both within the RNCM and in external UK venues. They are able to offer a variety of repertoire choices and seek to devise innovative and creative programmes of songs across the entire repertoire.
The RNCM Songsters have performed for many music societies across the North of England, as well as performing in Leeds Lieder, Leeds International Concert Season Lunchtime Recitals, and RNCM Spotlight recitals and lunchtime concerts. They have taken part in several leading festivals of song, including the English Music Festival and Manchester Song Festival.
Other notable engagements include giving a recital of Russian Song and verse at The Stoller Hall working with acclaimed actor Timothy West and collaborating with Sir Stephen Hough in performances of his songs for voice and piano. They have also been involved in projects such as recording songs by Arthur Sullivan in collaboration with the acclaimed pianist David Owen Norris, and performing in collaborative recital projects with The Paris Conservatoire in Paris and Manchester.
The artistic team for the RNCM Songsters includes Jonathan Fisher, Nico de Villiers, David Jones, and Lynne Dawson. In recent years RNCM Songsters have been invited to work with expert guest tutors experienced in the world of art song. These have included Julius Drake, Sir Stephen Hough, Ian Partridge, David Owen Norris, Alice Coote, Roderick Williams, and Richard Stokes.
