About The Buxton Faun

A tale of love in the heart of the hills...

From the creative team behind Keeper of the Books (2024) and One Night in Buxton (2025), and written by local playwright Susie Bennett, this brand-new production is inspired by the magic and charm of our local surroundings.

Sally has high hopes for her new life in Buxton. Leaving behind the bustle of 'down South,' she and her beloved cat, Veronica, are ready to embrace the peace of the Peak District and Buxton countryside. But with her luck on dating apps running cold, and the unforgiving winter even colder, Sally questions whether she truly belongs, and only the Buxton Faun can change her mind...

Follow the pair as they embark on an adventure through Buxton's picturesque landscapes, rich heritage and hidden gems, where old dreams may be rekindled, and sparks of a new romance await.

The Buxton Faun has been commissioned thanks to the generous support of Arts Council England. Earlier this year, we held a competition for local writers in and around Buxton, to uncover and develop ideas for original plays. Our winner, Susie Bennett, has worked closely with award-winning playwright and author of The Vanishing Elephant, Charles Way to bring this production from script to stage.

Featuring a cast made up of local community members, including Catherine Pugh as Sally, who previously starred in Jack and the Beanstalk (2024) and Evita (2024), Chris Sherborne (Jesus Christ Superstar, Company) as the Buxton Faun, and Bethany Boraman as Veronica the Cat.

Written by Susie Bennett. Directed by Kitty Randle and produced by Sarah Kell, with music by Mathew Reeve. Dramaturgy by Charles Way.

"An imaginative community production."
