For schools, colleges and teachers

We operate an exciting programme of activities for schools, colleges and universities and can offer support to make sure your group gets the most out of their theatre visit.

Tours
We can arrange tours of the theatre to give students a glimpse behind the scenes of a busy working theatre and learn the history of this fascinating building designed by the celebrated theatre architect Frank Matcham. Alongside the tours we are also able to offer workshops based around productions at the Opera House - this allows the young people to get the most out of their visit to us.

Workshops
We can offer bespoke workshops delivered for all key stages, from primary to A Level, plus FE and HE. If there's something special in your English, Drama or Dance curriculum where a specially-designed workshop would help get behind the text and bring it to life for your students, please get in touch.

Education Packs
If your school, college or university has booked to see one of our shows, please check the event listing for that show to see if there’s an education pack to enhance your visit.

Work Experience
Thank you for your interest in work experience at Buxton Opera House. We are currently reviewing our Work Experience Programme and will be accepting applications in September 2018. Our Work Experience programme is very popular and we receive a high number of applications throughout the year. We are often limited to taking one placement student at a time so we would recommend you apply early in order to avoid disappointment.

Our Work Experience programme offers placement students an insight into the everyday operations of a professional theatre. Subject to availability and the programming schedule, you will be given the chance to work within our Learning and Participation Department who work collaboratively with all the different departments here at the Buxton Opera House and the Pavilion Arts Centre and organise and deliver a wide variety of workshops, events and tours. Working alongside the Learning and Participation Officer and freelancers, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in workshop planning and delivery, marketing and social media, stage management, working with young people and event management.

Due to the high level of applications we receive each year, we are only able to reply to successful applicants. If you don't hear from us within four weeks of you submitting your application, please assume that we are unable to accommodate your request.
