Throughout spring 2021, Buxton Opera House is offering an array of free community-centred projects for and including young people, children, families, adults, and community groups.

During this time in the pandemic, as we move forward communities need to be given time, space, and opportunity to (Re)Connect, Emerge, Share and Create

All projects will work within current government guidelines. Projects will begin online but as soon as regulations allow we hope to be able to work with participants face to face again.

EMERGE DANCE PROJECT

Do you want to emerge from your home dancing?

Buxton Opera House is looking for 2 groups from the local community to take part in an exciting new project led by local dance artist, Jennie Le Port. Whether you are an experienced dancer or have only ever tapped a toe to music, if you are aged between 12-100+ we want you to get involved!

The aim of the sessions is to have fun, connect and get our bodies moving. Emerge also offers the opportunity to work on choreography that will (when restrictions allow) be part of a digital flash mob connecting dancers across the community.

The sessions will take place over Zoom for one hour a week at the following times:

Age groupDay and timeDates
Age 18+Monday 7.15pm-8.15pm22 February, 1, 8, 15 & 22 March
Age 12-17Thursday 5.15pm-6.15pm25 February, 4, 11, 18 & 25 March

Both groups will meet for a 6th session to film the digital flash mob once restrictions are lifted.

SHARED SOUND SINGING PROJECT

Love to sing? Maybe you sing in a choir, along to the TV or out loud in the shower.

Shared Sound wants to bring together voices from our community, to create a space of connection through singing. We invite you, whatever your ability, to join us in weekly sessions led by local Musical Director Clare O’Neill.

All sessions will be delivered in an accessible and inclusive way. Over 5 weeks participants will be involved in online workshops, working on singing technique, developing confidence and learning a song that will connect all groups involved in this project.

Please note the Thursday 18+ Community group is now fully booked. A new 18+ group has been added on Tuesday evenings, 7.15pm-8.15pm on the following dates: 23 February, 2, 9, 16 & 23 March. By returning the form, you are signing up to the Tuesday evening session.
