Buxton Opera House & Pavilion Arts Centre Scoops the Award for ‘Most Welcoming Theatre in the East Midlands’ at the UK Theatre Awards
From over 200 theatres that took part, Buxton Opera House & Pavilion Art Centre was amongst the twelve regional theatres to win the coveted title of ‘Most Welcoming Theatre’ in their region at this year’s UK Theatre Awards. For the second year running Buxton received the most public votes in the East Midlands, beating off stiff competition from rival theatres in the region.
The exclusive awards ceremony took place at London’s historic Guildhall, a magnificent medieval Grade 1 listed landmark building, situated in the City of London. Six lucky Opera House staff attended the awards ceremony along with the great and the good of Theatre industry. During the afternoon Vanessa Redgrave CBE received The Gielgud Award for Excellence in the Dramatic Arts, whilst Sir Ian McKellen collected the accolade for ‘Outstanding Contribution to British Theatre’. Winning the overall title as the Most Welcoming Theatre in the UK was the Mill at Sonning, Oxfordshire.
