News Story

Buxton Opera House is searching for a vibrant community cast to bring our brand-new, magical community play, The Buxton Faun, to life on our stage in January 2026!

Following the huge success of our past community new writing productions Deep, Keeper of the Books and One Night in Buxton, this year we held a competition to find our next great story rooted in the heart of Buxton. The competition was won by Susie Bennett and her enchanting play, The Buxton Faun, a story brimming with Buxton, Love, and Magic.

Are you ready to step onto the stage?

We're looking for an enthusiastic community ensemble to work on the play’s final development and perform in the world premiere!

  • No experience necessary! Whether you're a seasoned performer or you've always dreamed of setting foot on a professional stage, we want to hear from you. We believe everyone has a part to play.
  • Be a part of the creative process. This is your chance to help shape a brand-new production from the ground up and perform alongside your friends and neighbours.

About the Play: The Buxton Faun

Meet Sally, Buxton's newest resident, who's officially fed up with bad dates and dreary weather. Into her life stumbles Lysander, the Hereditary Buxton Faun, whose ancient duty is to 'rewild' her and teach her to love the wild Peak District.

But what happens when the grumpy Southerner and the reluctant Faun bond over the best of modern life instead? Think Scandinavian furniture shops, tribute bands at the Buxton Opera House, and good food, rather than misty moors!

Don't miss this hilarious, heart-warming, and truly Buxton-centric play where a runaway cat, a massive storm, and an unexpected Goddess of the Grove prove that the greatest force of nature might just be true love.
