Answer the siren’s call; performers are wanted for an exciting new play set in Buxton.

Posted: 13 August 2019

In celebration of Buxton and the opening of Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust, Buxton Opera House and the Crescent are developing a brand new play for Buxton, about Buxton.

We want to hear from local young performers aged 16-30, who are interested in being part of a new piece of writing which will be performed on 26 January 2020.

Written by Rob Young and funded by The Arts Council, Deep tells the story of Jan, a Buxton teenager rejected by his peers and is unable to cope with his father's illness. Jan finds solace in  a voice that speaks from the deep. The voice is kind, but is it a trap? Or psychosis? Or love? And how do you date a girl who lives underwater when you can't swim?

We are looking to create a unique ensemble of performers to bring this story to life. We are particularly interested in actors who are happy to work with movement and voice. Even if you have little performance experience, if you feel you have something to bring to the company then we want to hear from you.

Auditions: The first set of workshop auditions will be held on the 1 September at Buxton Opera House. Further opportunities to audition will be available after this date. Please contact Sarah Kell (Head of Programming) if you would like to express an interest in auditioning. Please complete the below registration form and email to Sarah Kell: [email protected]
