About Iolanthe - Edinburgh G&S Society

Edinburgh G&S Society are delighted to bring Iolanthe to the Festival, and it's pure delight!

Fairies, magic, and mayhem collide with bumbling Peers as love, law, and politics intertwine.

The story follows the young shepherd Strephon, whose unusual parentage leads to a string of legal and political complications when he falls in love with Phyllis, a Ward of Court. As the Fairy Queen and her troupe clash with the House of Peers, loyalties shift, tempers fray, and order gives way to lively topsy-turvydom.

With its clever satire, memorable melodies, and neatly woven plot, Iolanthe provides an engaging blend of fantasy and sharp humour. This production promises a thoroughly enjoyable evening for both long-time G&S enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
