About Iolanthe - Harrogate G&S Society

Festival favourites, Harrogate G&S Society, are back with another fun-filled afternoon.

Magic, mayhem, and misadventure collide with bumbling Peers as love, law, and politics intertwine.

The story follows the young shepherd Strephon, whose unusual parentage leads to a string of legal and political complications when he falls in love with Phyllis, a Ward of Court. As the Fairy Queen and her troupe clash with the House of Peers, loyalties shift, tempers fray, and order gives way to lively topsy-turvydom.

With its clever satire, memorable melodies, and neatly woven plot, Iolanthe provides an engaging blend of fantasy and sharp Victorian humour. This production promises a thoroughly enjoyable evening for both long-time G&S enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
