22 Jan 2026News Story
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced a major £1.5 billion investment package to protect the UK’s arts and heritage sectors, providing a boost for cultural organisations across the High Peak.
The initiative, aimed at “restoring national pride,” includes a vital commitment to the Arts Council England National Portfolio. For Buxton Opera House, the most significant element is the confirmation of a 5% funding uplift for the 2026–27 period. This national investment is designed to ensure that cherished venues remain at the heart of their communities.
"Buxton Opera House warmly welcomes the Government’s announcement of £1.5 billion in investment for cultural organisations over the next five years. This commitment represents an important step towards safeguarding long-term access to arts and culture across the country.
"As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, this news has a meaningful impact on our work. The resulting 5% uplift in our funding for 2026–27 will enable us to further strengthen our artistic programme and deepen our community engagement initiatives, ensuring these projects continue to grow, thrive, and benefit the High Peak and beyond.
"We are deeply grateful for this support and look forward to building on our mission to deliver theatre experiences that resonate locally and globally and create inspiring opportunities with and for our communities."
