About Heritage Open Day

Step behind the scenes and discover one of the country's most beautiful historic theatres at our free Heritage Open Day!

Join us for a guided tour of Buxton Opera House and explore the magnificent architecture of renowned theatre designer Frank Matcham. Running between 10am and 2pm, our free tours offer a fascinating insight into thge history, design, and heritage of this iconic Grade II* listed building.

Tours are available to book online and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. There will be 5 spaces per tour available for walk ups on the day.

If you're unable to join a tour, you're still warmly welcome to visit. The Opera House auditorium and bars will be open throughout the day, giving visitors the opportunity to admire the stunning interior and soak up the atmosphere of this historic venue, which has been at the heart of Buxton's cultural life since 1903.

As a registered charity, Buxton Opera House relies on the generosity of its audiences and supporters to help protect our historic theatre and deliver a year-round programme of arts, education, and community activities. While this event is free to attend, visitors are invited to make an optional donation to support our work. Donations can be added to your booking at check out and we will also be collecting no obligation donations on the day, should you feel able to.
