BOH Creates Projects Earn National Award Nominations
30 Oct 2026News Story
We’re celebrating a double success after two of our BOH Creates projects have received national award nominations recognising excellence in arts participation, education, and family engagement!
Our 2026 Summer School production of Newsies JR has been shortlisted for the MTI Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre at the Music & Drama Education Awards, while Outdoor Opera House has been nominated for Best Family Arts Activity at the Fantastic for Families Awards.
The nominations highlight the breadth of work delivered by our Buxton Opera House Creates team, from high-quality performance opportunities for young people to accessible arts experiences that bring together families and communities.
Each summer, Buxton Opera House Creates' Summer School gives young people aged 8-18 the opportunity to work alongside professional creatives, developing their skills both on stage and behind the scenes. This year’s production of Newsies JR was performed by a cast and crew of talented young people from across the region.

Meanwhile, Outdoor Opera House has established itself as a much-loved summer event in Buxton. Presented in association with Buxton Civic Association, the pay-what-you-can festival offers four days of workshops, performances and creative activities in the natural surroundings of Grin Low Woods and Poole's Cavern.
"We are incredibly proud that the Buxton Opera House Creates team has been recognised with nominations at the Music & Drama Education Awards for our Summer School production of Newsies JR, and Best Family Arts Activity in the Fantastic for Families Awards for Outdoor Opera House. These nominations celebrate the creativity, dedication and passion of everyone involved in delivering inspiring arts experiences for young people, families and our wider community."
- Kerry Allsop, Creative Learning Director at Buxton Opera House
Winners of the Fantastic for Families Awards will be announced in December, while the Music & Drama Education Awards will take place in the new year.
