Backstage Pass Theatre Tour

Buxton Opera Housebutton--dates-and-timesDates & Times

From it’s opening in 1903 to the present day, Buxton Opera House has been through it’s fair share of changes.

Take a look behind the scenes at one of the country’s finest examples of a Frank Matcham’s 90 theatres, one of only 21 still open today.

Starting from the Dress Circle bar, you will be taken through all levels of the the auditorium, where one of our Tour Guides will explain the history of Gender/Class divides, architectural influences and our mission to maintain historical integrity whilst keeping the theatre relevant to the needs of the modern world. You will see through the eyes of the stars when taken onto the stage to view the original rigging system and through to backstage to get a glimpse of the inner workings of the theatre.

As we are a working theatre, with a very packed schedule, we are not able to provide tours on a consistent basis, and there may be days where certain parts of the theatre are not accessible. However, we will always strive to provide you with the fullest access to the theatre possible.

We are also happy to arrange private tours. Please contact [email protected] to inquire.
