About Patience - Grosvenor Light Opera Company
We are delighted to welcome Grosvenor Light Opera Company, an amateur society based in central London, to the Opera House.
This year they present Patience, one of Gilbert & Sullivan's most good-humoured satires. The operetta affectionately mocks the Aesthetic Movement of the Late Victorian era, with its emphasis on beauty, artistic devotion, and emotional expression.
The story follows two rival poets - the passionate Reginald Bunthorne and the idealistic Archibald Grosvenor - whose contrasting styles send the local maidens into a frenzy of admiration. Only Patience, a milkmaid, remains unimpressed. The opera exposes the follies of pretension, romantic posturing and the desire to appear "aesthetic."
With its tuneful score, sharp observation, and playful humour, Patience promises an excellent evening's entertainment.
