We operate an exciting programme of activities for schools, colleges and universities and can offer support to make sure your group gets the most out of their theatre visit.

Attending a performance When you booked your tickets we will have sent you a seating plan telling you where your group will be sitting. As space is very limited in the theatre it might be useful to organise your group on the forecourt so they can walk into the auditorium in the order they will be sitting.

Coaches Although there is no on-site parking, coaches can drop off at the front or side of the Opera House on Water Street. This is only a dropping-off/picking-up point so coaches shouldn’t park there for any significant length of time. For coach parking there are four free bays on Burlington Road (2 minutes’ walk away) and the Sylvan Coach Park which is located next to the roundabout at the intersection of the A6/A53. Charges: £5 for up to 4 hours, over 4 hours £10.

Performance times Please arrive in good time so that our Front of House team can help to seat your group before the performance. We recommend you arrive at least 15 minutes before the published performance start time but no earlier than 30 minutes. Please be aware that the auditorium is closed to the public until 30 minutes before the performance start time. Please ask about the expected performance finish time so that you can organise your coach operator to pick your group up.

Conduct, behaviour and best practice Buxton Opera House is a public building and during a performance it can get very busy. When you visit, please be aware of other customers in the theatre and encourage your group to behave sensibly.

  • We request that all mobile phones are switched off during the performance
  • Try not to talk during the performance
  • Rustling sweet wrappers can be annoying for other customers so please keep this to an absolute minimum
  • Please don’t put your feet on the chair in front or kick the back of it. This is not only annoying for the person sitting in the seat; it also damages our historic property.
