Hare & Tortoise Schools Tour

Throughout December we are taking Hare & Tortoise on tour to primary schools across the High Peak and we would love you to book this magical modern classic for your school.

Through this 50 minute play, Hare and Tortoise follow the seasons as their wintry world becomes Spring, Summer and finally Autumn as the two friends get ready to race each other!

Hare & Tortoise by Brendan Murray will ignite imaginations in this this lively and accessible retelling of a traditional tale, using poetry, music and characterisation. This play explores trust, friendship, nature and the excitement of growing up.

Learning Objectives for Key Stage One & Two

Hare & Tortoise has links to the National Curriculum, making it an ideal addition to Key Stage 1 and 2 lesson planning.

Key Stage 1: Exploration of the changing seasons, plant growth and transformation, animal habitats and hibernation. Songs, rhymes and rhythms together with live and recorded music.

Key Stage 2: Plays, poetry and traditional tales. Exploring language, developing key writing techniques including characterisation, empathy and imagination. The inter-related dimensions of music.

Additional Resources

In addition to the performance itself, we will also offer a free workshop tailored to the age of the audience, in line with the National Curriculum.

For Key Stage 1:We will use drama exercises to explore the changing seasons, plant growth and transformation, animal habitats and hibernation.

Key Stage 2: A practical literacy workshop will be available for students in years 3 & 4 exploring language, poetry and text. In addition to the performance and workshop, our online resources (available in the autumn) will be an opportunity for teachers to further explore the language, themes and ideas in the production.
