Look out, here comes Audrey II! Apply to star in Little Shop of Horrors

16 November 2022

Local performers are being sought out once more to star in our latest community production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Following on from Sweeney Todd, Oliver! and West Side Story, Buxton Opera House Chief Executive, and director of the UK Hairspray tour, Paul Kerryson will once again be directing this hilarious award winning musical. Paul and a creative team will be on hand to pass on their expertise.

Paul said: “These fabulous annual musicals have become a must see for our audiences. This is a superb opportunity for local singers and performers to appear in this bloodthirsty musical comedy. We are looking for singers and actors of all genders to perform the iconic roles. You will be supported by all the professional expertise of the Opera House. If you are aged 16 or over please apply for an audition via the website. Good luck!”

Anyone who is 16 or over and is interested in auditioning must download and return a completed application form to [email protected]. Application forms are available to download below.

Little Shop of Horrors follows Seymour Krelborn – a poor, run-down florist working on the decrepit Skid Row – who finds a mysterious plant from outer space with a thirst for blood. The carnivorous plant (named Audrey II after his co-worker crush Audrey) begins to grow and the flower shop becomes an overnight sensation, but questions are soon asked as townsfolk begin to mysteriously disappear… Can Seymour give up his fortune and fame to save the world from global plant domination?

This sci-fi rock musical has become a cult favourite, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman (the creative geniuses behind Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin). It features songs Somewhere That’s Green, Dentist, Suddenly Seymour and Don’t Feed The Plants.

Little Shop of Horrors is at Buxton Opera House from Thursday 25 - Sunday 28 May 2023. Tickets are priced at £21-£25. To book, call our Box Office on 01298 72190 or buy online.
