As part of the Buxton Cinema experience, we are working on providing something for everyone, whether that be the latest blockbuster, award winning arthouse or live screenings. We want our cinema to accessible to all, which is why are developing a range of screenings for people who might find a trip to the cinema a bit more challenging.
For those who are Deaf or hard of hearing we have a range of screenings to make the most of your trip to the cinema. We have a number of films which are shown with descriptive subtitles (DS) which means you not only get the dialogue but any non-dialogue action as well. We also have Infra-red headsets which you can reserve at the Box Office in advance.
As with our relaxed performances at the Opera House such as the pantomime, we now offer Relaxed screenings (R) in cinema as well. These performances are to give a warm welcome to any anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment such as customers with autism, learning disabilities and cognitive disorders. In relaxed screenings we keep the cinema lights on low and adjust the volume of the film so that it is not as loud as usual. There will be a more relaxed attitude towards noise and talking during the screening You are free to move around, and leave and re-enter the cinema when you like. With the help of The Friends of Buxton Opera House we are able to provide a chill out area with a sensory tent, lights and bean bags for anyone who needs to have some time away from the screen.
