Local schools join to showcase their dance skills.

Posted: 4 March 2020

For 14 years, Buxton Opera House has been bringing local schools together to take part in the dance festival Making Space.

This year a record number of schools are taking part in this stunning showcase, which gives young dancers a taste of performing on the Opera House stage.

Kerry Allsop from Buxton Opera House who is coordinating this year’s Making Space performance said, “We are immensely proud to host Making Space for its 14th year. It continues to grow in popularity, and we have ten local schools, and two private dance schools performing this year, which makes it an exciting performance to be involved in”.

This year’s performance follows the theme of water, and the performers from schools such as St Andrews Junior School in Hadfield, Bamford Primary School, Fairfield Infants and Harpur Hill Primary School will interpret this theme in a mix of dance styles.

Buxton Opera House strives to encourage and nurture young performers through its Learning and Engagement department and community productions. Over the past few years Buxton Opera House Chief Executive, Paul Kerryson, has directed several successful productions including West Side Story in 2018, Oliver! in 2019 and the latest production Chicago.

The Opera House provides valuable experience to budding performers and a space to experiment and develop their creative skills whilst being full supported by a professional creative team. Kerry added “The Opera House is an exciting and inspiring place to be.  We hope students enjoy the opportunity to share what they have been working on for Making Space and are inspired to continue performing”.

Making Space is at Buxton Opera House Monday 16 March at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £7. Discounts are available. To buy tickets contact Buxton Opera House Box Office, Tel: 01298 72190 or visit: www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
