Satellite Project

Buxton Opera House are working with local schools across High Peak to bring high quality performance training and opportunities to children.

We have worked with a wide range of children and teaching staff, particularly focusing on rural areas and schools where access to the arts is limited, potentially due to financial barriers, transport links, or location.

As part of this project, we have set up 3 after school clubs offering Musical Theatre and Drama to children as well as 3 Artist in Residency Programs. The latter sees an industry professional deliver weekly workshops in school time in a range of performance skills, whilst also offering training to teachers to ensure we leave a positive lasting legacy which empowers schools to continue drama and performance in the future.

We work with schools to ensure the work supports children’s learning, while offering them new experiences and skills.

After school clubs came to BOH for a workshop, exclusive back stage tour, and to share their work on the Opera House stage. Artist in Residencies had tailor made programs which reflected the school’s aims.

If schools want to find out more information about Buxton Opera House hosting an after school club or Artist in Residency program at their school, please contact Anna at [email protected].

“Some of our children come from deprived backgrounds and their experience of the arts is very limited or non-existent which is why having you come in to work with them in school is so great.”
