Join us for Platform 3’s very own “Book Club”, every Tuesday during term time. A light hearted and refreshing opportunity to explore new novels and plays or revisit your favourite ones.
Sessions will involve:
- Ice breakers and introductions to each text.
- Reading sections of text as a group (members do not have to read aloud if they don’t want to).
- Lively discussions and accessible activities on the themes and characters.
- Opportunities to talk to or find out more about the authors/playwrights.
- Opportunities to make new friends who share similar interests.
The sessions will be led by Allie Spencer and will take place in the Buxton Opera House Dress Circle Bar – bring your own coffee!
Power, Fame and Influence
What makes a person powerful? Why do people crave power and recognition? What sacrifices are made on the journey to success? How do people influence us, and how do we become a modern day “influencer”?
In the next six weeks we look at two texts, relevant to their time, that explore power, fame, influence (and downfall!) in a light-hearted and humorous way:
- Top Girls – by Caryl Churchill
- The Echo Chamber – by John Boyne (contains some strong language and adult themes)
You do not need to have read any of the texts, but please bring a copy with you. There will be some copies available to borrow on the day. Each session is a stand alone session so if you miss a week it doesn’t matter.
