Leave No Trace - Participant Call Out!

5 March 2024

Join our community performance groups and be part of Leave No Trace – a promenade performance taking place in Grin Low Woods in partnership with Buxton Civic Association.

Leave No Trace will invite audiences and participants to connect with our local wild spaces through movement, poetry, and storytelling. We will be recruiting two community groups to create a performance alongside directors and choreographers that will be shared this summer in our local woodland. No previous performance experience is necessary to join these groups, just enthusiasm for theatre making and a love for the outdoors!

We are looking for:

  • A Youth Dance Company for young people aged 9-17 led by Movement Director Kerry Allsop. This group will develop a dance that will lead audiences through Grin Low Wood and explore our connection to nature.
  • A Performers Group for people aged 16+ led by Director Anna Berentzen and Poet and Movement Director Chris Brown. This group will create poetry, spoken word, and scenes which will pop up around the woodland and explore the importance of our wild spaces and caring for them.

Rehearsals will take place in Buxton on:

Saturday 27 April
Thursday 2 May
Saturday 11 May
Thursday 16 May
Thursday 23 May

Performance date: Saturday 1 June at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm

Saturday rehearsals will take place between 10am – 4pm, the morning session will start in the Pavilion Arts Centre and we will work in Grin Low Woods in the afternoon.

Thursday rehearsals will take place in the Pavilion Arts Centre, Youth Dance Company 5pm – 6.30pm and Adult Performance Group 6.30pm – 8.30pm

To sign up please email Anna Berentzen [email protected] stating which group you want to be part of and we will send you a sign up form.

Please note, this is a woodland performance which includes steps, uneven ground and walking in between performance areas. Please wear suitable footwear and waterproofs.

The performance route includes 60 steps or an incline, and muddy pathways. We will do our best to make the project as inclusive as possible. If you would like to join in but are concerned about access, please contact Anna Berentzen on [email protected]

Tickets for the performances are free and available here.
